Help research & get to know your body fat percentage
Would you like to help a fellow student in practicing taking anthropometric measures? For Science? I and a undergraduate student assistant (Simona) need practice in taking skin fold caliper measures to asses body fat percentage. Bonus: you get to know your body fat percentage in addition to helping us out!
This is a preparatory step for my dissertation thesis project that will be launched very soon! We will send out more details in coming weeks and you are welcome to join in our project as research subjects. In short we are conducting a lifestyle intervention trial that involves changes in diet and social organization. We will be testing two different dietary guidelines in two social organization intervention (2 by 2 design). The efficacy of our intervention will be tested over a period of 12 weeks by taking anthropometric measures and a mental acuity test.
The skin fold caliper measurement involves measuring body fat under the skin by a caliper. The measurement will be taken at four different sites triceps, biceps, subscapular (under the shoulder blade), and suprailiac (waist). A measurer of either sex will be present to take the measurements. Please see below for the schedule. We will ensure that privacy is maintained at the measurement location. A separate room with a door has been assigned for measurement at EvoS Space Room 113 Science 3.
We will also take measurements on Waist Circumference, Height and Body Fat Percentage by Bio-electric Impedance Analysis. Your data will be immediately destroyed/deleted. No copies will kept on record. This is just an exercise in practicing the technique. If you wish we will let you know your estimated body fat percentage.
Please stop by at EvoS Space Room 113 Science 3 at any of the following times this week and help us do Science!
Wednesday 3:30-4:30 (Sud and Simona)
Thursday 3:15-6:00 (3:15-4:15 Simona, 3:15-6:00 Sud)
Friday 3:30-5:30 (3:40-4:30 Simona and 3:30 and 3:30-5:30 Sud)
My undergraduate assistant (Simona) and I will be present at these locations during these times.
Thanks and hope to see you there!
