The spirit of EvoS is to enable graduate students from all academic units that comprise BU to adopt an evolutionary perspective without adding an undue course burden on top of their existing requirements. Turning this spirit into a reality will be a bumpy process, especially at the beginning. By assigning each student a faculty advisor, we hope to identify and eliminate the “bumps” as quickly as possible. In this and other respects, EvoS has been designed to treat undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty as members of a single intellectual community at various stages of development. Graduate students are a critical component of the program, not only as students but as teachers and colleagues, and are therefore encouraged to contribute their ideas about the design and operation of the program as it develops.
