What’s New With EvoS?

Friday, August 29, 2008
Lecture Hall 8, 4:00 PM

Abstract

Evolutionary theory is rapidly expanding beyond the biological sciences to include all human-related subjects. EvoS is the first program to comprehensively reflect this trend in higher education.

Now EvoS is itself rapidly expanding in a number of directions, including:

  1. as an Institute for Advanced Studies for fostering research;
  2. as the hub of a nationwide consortium of programs;
  3. as a mechanism for integrating the sciences and humanities; and
  4. as a mechanism for improving the quality of life in the real world.

I will review these developments and the opportunities that they provide for undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty at BU and beyond.

Readings

  1. NSF grant to expand EvoS into a nationwide consortium
  2. NEH grant to integrate the humanities and sciences
  3. EvoS and the Binghamton Neighborhood Project
