Graduate Students

EvoS is intended to enable graduate students from all academic units to adopt an evolutionary perspective without adding an undue burden to their existing requirements. Graduate students are a critical component of the program, not only as students but as teachers and colleagues, and are therefore encouraged to contribute ideas to the design and operation of the program.

Joining EvoS

Enrollment in the graduate EvoS program is indicated by enrollment in the Graduate School’s Evolutionary Studies certificate program. Here’s how to apply:

  1. Visit the Graduate School’s Graduate Certificate Programs portal and click Register for a Certificate.
  2. Enter your identifying information, select Evolutionary Studies from the Certificate menu, and click Next to proceed with registration.

Once you’ve applied, you will be added to the general EvoS Blackboard group. You can also return to the portal to monitor your progress towards completion of the requirements; your status will be updated periodically. Upon completion, and pending receipt of the processing fee collected by the Graduate School, you will receive the certificate and acknowledgement on your official transcript.

Enrolling in the Seminar

The Current Topics in Evolutionary Studies graduate seminar course (BIOL 680S) is required to earn the graduate certificate. Registration is restricted to ensure student interest. To enroll, visit the Biology Department office (Science 3 Room 210) and fill out a yellow graduate Independent Study Course Registration Form. The Course Registration Number (CRN#) for BIOL 680S is 94313. You will be registered for the seminar course upon approval.
