Undergraduate Students

The undergraduate component of EvoS is an integrated curriculum designed to supplement your existing major by allowing some of your courses to simultaneously satisfy major and EvoS program requirements. Completion of the program is recognized with an EvoS certificate and an annotation on your official transcript.

Joining EvoS

Enrollment in the undergraduate EvoS program is indicated by enrollment in the seminar course. (Anyone is welcome to attend the seminar on a not-for-credit basis.) Courses taken prior to joining EvoS count towards the requirements. Here’s how to enroll:

  1. Download and print out the Biology Course Petition form (PDF).
  2. Carefully fill out the petition form. Note the following requirements:
    1. Enter BIOL 480S Current Topics in Evolutionary Studies in response to question 10.
    2. Enter Course Registration Number (CRN) 12289 after Lecture in response to question 12.
    3. In response to question 13, write a statement indicating your interest in evolutionary studies and your intent to to fulfill the requirements of the EvoS program. This statement may be attached as a separate page. Petitions lacking a statement of interest will not be approved.
  3. Return the completed petition to the Biology Department office (Science 3 Room 210). Be sure to review the checklist of general requirements listed under question 19.

What Next?

Once your petition is approved, you will be registered for the seminar course, added to the the general EvoS Blackboard group, and eligible for the EvoS certificate upon graduation and fulfillment of the program requirements. Members are encouraged to consult EvoS faculty for help choosing courses and to explore relevant opportunities.
