RA position available for an undergraduate project on scientific code development
An undergraduate project on scientific code development is available in Prof. Aleksey Kolmogorov’s group. His research focuses on adapting bio-inspired algorithms to solving complex Physics problems. An evolutionary algorithm implemented in the group’s MAISE package has already led to prediction and discovery of new materials. The current goal is to implement a neural network formalism which is expected to accelerate materials prediction by orders of magnitude. Students will have the opportunity to learn widely used numerical methods and contribute to the development of the software. Relevant experience includes coding in c, creating educational videos, and working with Raspberry Pi. The project has been funded by the National Science Foundation and includes summer support. More information about the research can be found at http://www.binghamton.edu/phys
